Voicing Newsletter October 2025

Warm seasonal greeting (“As the leaves change this October, we’re focusing on how voices can also transform with the right care and support.”).

Highlight that voice is deeply tied to identity, and when vocal cords are damaged—by illness, surgery, injury, or overuse—it can be frightening.

Treatment & Procedure Options

Non-Surgical / Therapeutic

  • Voice Therapy with an SLP – exercises to reduce strain, improve resonance, strengthen remaining tissue, and teach safe vocal habits.

  • LSVT LOUD® (if Parkinson’s or neurological involvement) – effective for strengthening vocal output.

  • Resonant Voice Therapy – gentle approaches to help voice heal.

  • Vocal hygiene strategies – hydration, rest, reducing irritants.

Medical & Surgical Options (explain briefly but clearly)

  • Injection Laryngoplasty – fillers to bulk up a weak or paralyzed cord.

  • Medialization Thyroplasty – surgical implant to reposition a cord for better closure.

  • Microsurgery for nodules/polyps – precise removal of lesions.

  • Laser or reinnervation procedures – in specialized cases.

Patient Empowerment Tips

Know the signs of vocal cord injury: persistent hoarseness, breathy voice, pain, or effortful speaking.

  • Don’t ignore symptoms that last more than 2 weeks—early intervention matters.

  • Ask about all options: therapy, medical, and surgical.

  • Advocate for your voice—bring questions to your ENT and SLP.
